Not everyone can or should source from China . Not everything can or should be sourced from China allegra-d. Some products are more suitable for manufacture in China than others . China is configured for an ideal sourcing candidate . The closer you meet this ideal, the greater extent to which you will benefit from sourcing in China cytotec.
Do you match the profile of the ideal China sourcing candidate?
- You have thoroughly examined your concept and design. You have determined that it is unique, and there is a demand for it in the marketplace at your estimated sales price. You have also designed it for manufacturability.
- You have a realistic plan on how to protect your intellectual property. You have thought about where and how you plan to manufacture the components versus the component assembly. In addition you should seriously consider applying for patents and trademarks in China. As Dan Harris of China Law Blog cites, “Foreign patents and trademarks are not enforceable in China, just as Chinese patents and trademarks are not enforceable in the United States. Multinationals also should be willing to enforce their Chinese IP rights against infringers.” Budgeting for IP protection or potential IP losses are part of the costs of doing business in China.
- You have invested in producing detailed specifications and drawings. If relevant, you can provide a 3D Alias model (which can directly feed the mechanical design stage).
- Production of your product is labor intensive. Although with labor shortages or labor dislocations in certain industries this could even prove to be a detriment at times. Let us just say that the fabrication of your product is relatively labor intensive.
- Order volumes are large enough to command the attention of a contract manufacturer.
- The production process is easy for a plant to scale, and relatively easy for a plant to automate if needed. The fabrication steps should minimize the need for high skill level craftsmanship as much as possible.
- You have the willingness and capability of establishing a long-term partnership with the manufacturing facilities in question.
- You have people based in China working on your behalf to improve the quality and delivery of your product, who visit the facility regularly and have the authority, knowledge, and gravitas to earn the respect of factory management. Even better these people are knowledgeable advocates of operational excellence and Lean manufacturing, and are willing to work with facilities as a mentor and a coach to help them to improve their processes continually.
- You have the willingness and capability to develop a training center open to all your contract factories that offers in-depth training on how Lean principles can enhance their business, in much the same way that Nike does here in this earlier blog post.
- Your product uses older technology that is no longer produced in your home country. For example, electronic hobby kits which are offered by Radio Shack in the U.S.
